Love Cambridge Charter Update

If you haven’t already, it’s not too late to sign up to the Love Cambridge Charter. Joining has been made even easier via our website by clicking this link, where you can also find full details of the Charter, what’s in it for you and a list of companies who have already signed up.
The Charter has been developed to address three areas that we believe will help improve everyone’s experience of Cambridge making them want to come back again and again. The Charter looks at promoting excellent customer service within the city, ways in which we can improve the physical appearance of our streets, and also offer guidance on how taking small steps in reducing your carbon emissions can contribute to tackling climate change.

The University of Cambridge's Open Cambridge scheme is an exciting weekend of free tours, talks and open access in which families, local residents and community groups are encouraged to explore the spectacular architecture, fantastic art collections and beautiful gardens that lie behind the University, College and City walls.

The Bridge the Gap walk will take place on Sunday 12 September. The walk is a wonderful opportunity to explore the grounds of several Cambridge Colleges whilst raising money for the Arthur Rank Hospice and Press Relief.

Some of the weekend is open access, but tours must be booked in advance. Book online here  or request a hard copy of the programme by calling 01223 766766 or emailing Bookings for tours close on 9 September but there is still plenty you can do without pre-booking including: visiting an amazing, historic selection of libraries; coming on the Bridge the Gap walk; and attending a series of talks about Cambridge. The recent openings of new retailers including Sanctuary Spa, on the second floor, British luxury leather handbag label, Radley, on the ground floor and Chesca the sophisticated womenswear label specialising in occasionwear for sizes 14 to 24, on the first floor, means the destination shopping centre is now at full capacity. Hollister Co., the Southern California lifestyle brand by Abercrombie & Fitch, is coming to Grand Arcade. Work to combine what were formerly two units into one and transform it into the Southern Californian lifestyle environment that is core to Hollister is already underway.

“Hollister is an impressive addition to the Grand Arcade mix and reflects Grand Arcade's position as the region's premier fashion retail destination,” said Lidia De Luca, Marketing & Pr manager at Grand Arcade. This new location is a great opportunity to showcase the Hollister brand.  A Hollister spokesperson said, “We’re excited to be bringing SoCal to Cambridge”.

The Urban Yard Fairs have been canceled

Sadly we have had to cancel the remaining Urban Yard Fair due to unforeseen circumstances. This is a great shame as they were certainly starting to build memento and were a good addition to the local calender of events. There maybe the chance that we can do something in December - we will up date you as soon as we know.

Meanwhile - Urban Larder is hoping to be moving to bigger and brighter pastures new... very close to the current shop. Once in and set up we will be bringing  you lots of tantalising events and evenings to whet the appetite and have some fun. A larger shop means, we can expand on the bakery side, which is very exciting, add more ranges of wonderful products, bakes, gluten free foods, and lots more to surprise you! So don't despair, the Fair may have gone but the Urban Larder will continue to bring you great new producers, growers, artists and cooks !

‘Paint Cambridge Pink’

LAUNCH WEEKEND – 17th, 18th & 19th SEPTEMBER 2010

The breast cancer awareness month launch is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for Cancer Research UK’s ‘Join The Fight For Women’s Survival’ breast cancer awareness campaign.

There are many different ways to ‘Paint Cambridge Pink’ - all you need to do is pick the way that is most suited to you! Why not consider the following ideas:

  • ‘Dress in Pink’ day at your workplace
  • Donate a raffle prize
  • ‘Pink’ party/event at work
  • ‘Pink’ window display
  • Display a collection goblet and some information
  • Provide volunteers to help collect over the weekend

Breast cancer is now the most common cancer in the UK. In the East of England alone, around 12 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every day, around 4,340 every year. Thanks to the amazing dedication of our volunteers, supporters and scientists, more women are surviving breast cancer than ever before. Cancer Research UK is the leading funder of breast cancer research in the UK. In 2009 we spent just under £45 million on groundbreaking work into the disease. But we really couldn’t do this without your help.

Please contact me on 07789776214 or email for materials or questions about your pink event.

Thank you for helping to beat breast cancer.
