Updates from Love Cambridge

The Love Cambridge Charter Project

This spring, in response to feedback from our Members, Love Cambridge is launching a Charter, which we hope you will be able to sign up to. The Charter has been developed to address three areas that we believe will help improve everyone’s experience of Cambridge making them want to come back again and again.  The Charter will look at promoting excellent customer service within the city, ways in which we can improve the physical appearance of our streets, and also offer guidance on how taking small steps in reducing your carbon emissions can contribute to tackling climate change.

What’s it in for you?

Our Charter invites all businesses and organisations within the city to sign up to working towards 10 basic principles. On signing up to the charter you will receive a copy of the charter to display to staff and a window sticker to inform the public that you are working towards the charter.  We will also provide some guidance notes giving clear and achievable suggestions on how to meet the charter criteria and will be listing all those signed up to the charter on our website for the public to see. Working with our media partner for the project, Cambridge News, we will also be issuing regular press releases detailing those businesses that have signed up to the Charter.

Love Cambridge will also be hosting an awards ceremony later in the year where we will reward and recognise those businesses that have demonstrated best practise.  The awards will celebrate all elements of the charter.

But that’s not all……

Love Cambridge Make a Difference Day Friday 14th May 2010

To officially launch the Love Cambridge Charter Project we will be hosting a ‘Make a Difference Day’ on Friday 14th May 2010 where we will focus on two elements within the charter which are Taking Pride in our City and Reducing Waste that we will promote and encourage throughout the city centre. The aim is that our “Make a Difference Day” will become an annual event, when each year we concentrate our efforts on highlighting different aspects of the charter.  In 2010 we have decided that Love Cambridge will focus on:

A Carrier Bag Exchange – We are hoping to ‘Make a Difference’ by reducing the number of plastic bags being used in Cambridge and along with our sponsors Donarbon, we are inviting businesses to pre-register for our reusable Love Cambridge paper bags, which can be used instead of plastic bags on and after Friday 14th May 2010.  In addition we will also have our special ‘bag lady’ in the city centre on Friday 14th May in Market Square encouraging people to swap their plastic bags for our limited edition cloth bags. All the plastic bags collected, as part of the project will be responsibly recycled.  To pre-register for our Love Cambridge bags please visit www.love-cambridge.co.uk/charter

Taking Pride in our City – Love Cambridge is encouraging businesses across the city to work together collectively to improve the general external appearance of their businesses.  If you are interested in helping us improve the appearance of the city then you can:

Register your interest at www.love-cambridge.co.uk/charter. Once you have registered your interest, you will be sent an information pack containing hints and tips on what we would like to achieve alongside information about the Capital Grant programme run by Cambridge City Council which could help you fund improvements you would like to make in your street / area.

Let us know any ’hot spots’ near your business, which you would particularly like to see addressed as part of our ‘Make a Difference’ day and we will see if we can help – please let us know your ‘hot spots’ by Friday 7th May at the latest.

How can you get involved?

All businesses and organisations within the city centre are invited to sign up to and participate in our Charter, Make a Difference Day or both!  To find out more or to sign up please visit www.love-cambridge.co.uk/charter

Alternatively, if you have any questions regarding the Charter, please contact Becky at the Love Cambridge office on 01223 457198 or email
