During the past five years over 3,500 people have entered the competition and some of the winners have gone onto bigger and better things.  Like 2005 winner Amelia McGrill who starred in Atonement with Keira Knightly, or Emily Wallis, our 2006 winner, who modelled in a photo shoot for J Shoes and Nestle, to mention a couple.

Come to The Grafton on Saturdays 11 and 25 September from 11am to 4pm, when our spotters will be out and about. If you’re picked, a digital photograph and your details will be taken. 60 finalists will be chosen from each day and invited to attend the castings on Wednesday 6 October when the finalists will be chosen for rehearsals.

The fashion show finals then take place on Sunday 24 to Wednesday 27 October to choose our ultimate winners.

The prizes are:

CAMBAC Project Argus

What is Project Argus?

Project ARGUS is a National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO) initiative, exploring ways to aid you in preventing, handling and recovering from a terrorist attack
It achieves this by taking businesses through a simulated terrorist attack. The simulation identifies the measures to take for preventing, handling and recovering from a terrorist attack.
What you can expect?
Argus is a completely free event which takes you through a realistic terrorist attack using a multi-media simulation.
A series of questions and challenges are put to you, both individually and as a group and you will have to resolve them. You will work in small syndicate groups with other local business representatives. The whole event will last 3 hours.
When & Where?

How do I ensure I don’t miss out?
Invitations will go out to all shops, pubs & clubs in the City Centre; demand for places will be high and allocation will be on a “first-come, first-served” basis. Book early, only 10 places left!

To reserve your place email:

To assist you it is worth reading two guides produced by the National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO). ‘Secure in the Knowledge’ is your guide to business continuity and ‘Expecting the unexpected’ your guide to business security and sharing information. Cool Opportunity to Partner with the Best

Planning is already underway to bring back winter fun to Parkers Piece with the launch of Cambridge On Ice 2010.

Subject to finalising permissions, the ice rink will be back for an intense 6 week period from Friday 19th November to Sunday 2nd January. Now in its fourth year this new Cambridge tradition has become a fixed part of the Christmas and winter festivities across the city and this year the rink owners Sygma are seeking to share

their success with other businesses.
As part of the continuous improvement programme for the rink there are now opportunities for more companies to become involved in this high profile event. From naming rights and session sponsorship to leaflet advertising and rink side boards there are opportunities for businesses large and small to be involved.
Brian Cleary, director of Sygma On Ice Ltd, said “we’ve recognised that times are tough for many small and medium sized enterprises in and around the city and so we’ve slashed the price of our rink side boards to encourage more local involvement at the rink with a great opportunity to advertise your services to 100,000 visitors to the rink. To complement this we hope to attract a major sponsor to name the rink so that not only will they benefit, but also those struggling local businesses can surf the wave of interest that will be created not just with visitors, but also with the media.”
Cambridge On Ice is keen to hear from companies large and small, but is especially hoping to attract a large national sponsor to name the rink for the first time. In addition there will be the usual poster and leaflet campaign making sure that well over 100,000 people receive information about times and prices at the rink alongside targeted adverts from local businesses – in 2009 Cambridge Toy Shop had an advert on the leaflet and backed it up with rink side boards to drive home their Christmas message.
Mr Cleary continued “ Cambridge On Ice has been one of the great success stories of the past few years in Cambridge and we hope that a large company or two might recognise this and join with us to take the standards at the rink even higher and enable us to once again keep prices the same – that’s right its  'PRICES FROZEN’ once again at Cambridge On Ice”.
Anyone interested in advertising, sponsorship and marketing at Cambridge On Ice should contact in the first instance

The Way to Be Awards 2010

The Way to Be awards were launched in 2004 to celebrate and reward the local services and businesses that do the most for disabled people.

Many local businesses go to great lengths to cater for disabled customers, but there is still a long way to go before Cambridge is as accessible and welcoming as we know it could be.

We have supported the scheme since its launch in 2004, and are keen to encourage actions that benefit Cambridge's disabled citizens and visitors.

For the 2010 ceremony, the Way to Be award will be presented at the Love Cambridge AGM on 14 September.

This will take place alongside the first phase of the Love Cambridge Charter Awards, which focus on recognising organisations and businesses that deliver excellent customer care.

Previous winners of the awards have included a taxi company, a coach company, a chemists, a corner shop, a restaurant, etc

New Stores Open at Grand Arcade

This summer marks a number of new brands at Grand Arcade:

Sanctuary Spa

Sanctuary Spa has opened its first out-of-London boutique spa at Grand Arcade. Elements of the original Covent Garden Sanctuary, including the all-women environment and a number of signature treatments and products, will be combined with new launches including a wider choice of results-driven treatments such as Medi Spa featuring botox, fillers, IPL and endermologies. Five luxury treatment rooms, on the second floor at Grand Arcade, create a pampering ambience within the beautifully furnished day spa which includes a nail bar and retail area. To book an appointment contact: 01223 657054.

Luxury handbag brand, Radley, has chosen Grand Arcade as the location to open a stand-alone shop. To mark the opening of the new 1300 sq ft ground floor store,  Radley is offering one customer the chance to win a year’s supply of Radley handbags. The winner can choose any handbag worth up to £150 every month for a whole year.  Entrants must visit the Cambridge store to fill in their details to enter the draw.  Radley is known for its dedication to quality craftsmanship and exquisite detailing on its range of premium leather goods including classic styles, oversized shoppers and totes as well as iconic fashion designs. The Grand Arcade store also sells umbrellas, luggage and a capsule sunglasses collection. A new addition to the brand is the first ever range of shoes featuring 10 different styles.

Chesca, the quality fashion brand specialising in occasionwear from size 14 to 24, has opened on the first floor of Grand Arcade. Chesca’s signature fit is known for making the most of curves and the fuller figure. Frequent new styles, delivered fortnightly, constantly refresh the range of dresses, tailoring, knitwear and separates in silk, linen and chiffon, designed for weddings, weekend entertaining, cruises, special events and occasions. Jacqui Green, the founder of the company, ensures design details across all collections are finely tuned; bust, waist and hip measurements are in perfect proportion for the fuller figure, the arm circumference of garments is not too tight and shoulders are kept feminine.

Topman Wins Accolade

Topman at Grand Arcade has reached the final of the national Topman Store of the Year Award. The store has been visited by a number of company executives who have judged the performance of the Cambridge branch on a number of factors including merchandising, team work and the approach to commercial challenges. Now through to the final three in the Megastore category, up against Topman Birmingham and Meadowhall, the Grand Arcade Topman team await the results to be announced on August 18th.

30th Cambridge Film Festival, Outdoor Screenings

Bank Holiday Weekend - Friday 27th, Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th August 2010

Join the Cambridge Film Festival in celebrating its 30th birthday with special outdoor screenings of classic movies, modern masterpieces and guilty pleasures under the stars in Grantchester Meadows, an idyllic location which is just a short walk, bike ride or punt from Cambridge city centre.

A highlight of Cambridge’s summer calendar, these August Bank Holiday screenings will see the Cambridge Film Festival transform a pictureseque corner of Grantchester Meadows into the perfect open air cinema. We’ll be setting up our massive inflatable cinema screen on the banks of the River Cam in Spring Lane Field, which is just behind the famous Orchard Tearooms. And there’s more than just films - come along early, bring a picnic and enjoy the great riverside setting in time to see the inflatable cinema screen rise majestically from the river bank before the projectors roll…  Gates will open at 6.00, with the films starting around dusk - roughly 8.30. So bring your blanket, pack a picnic (and a brolly, just in case!) and stretch out under the stars to enjoy these cinematic treats…

Friday 27th August

Calling all Edward and Bella fans!  What could be more electrifying than the ultimate outdoor movie experience of seeing TWILIGHT in the eerie surroundings of the Meadows after dark? Whether you’re Team Edward, Team Jacob or a TWILIGHT virgin, few guilty pleasures are as intoxicating as this teen sensation.  Come and take a bite…

Saturday 28th August

UP (U)

Acknowledged as Pixar’s masterpiece, this double Oscar-winner is a lovely, charming and visually stunning family comedy which offers laughter, sorrow and swooning beauty and will leave no heart unmoved.  Bring your hankies and be carried away…

Sunday 29th August

The masterpiece of legendary German director Fritz Lang, with its dizzying depiction of a futuristic cityscape and its iconic female robot, METROPOLIS is the mother of modern sci-fi.  This is your chance to see Lang’s 1927 director’s cut of this enduring epic - available in a newly restored version for the first time in 83 years.
